The rules for using SiteCrew
Version 0.1. Written in plain words on purpose.
1. What we do
We connect people who need work done on a property with contractors who can do that work. We check contractors' paperwork, we show honest ratings in both directions, and we take a fee for that. We do not do the work ourselves.
2. Two ways to use us
The protected way. You put the job money in with our payment company before work starts. The contractor can see the money is real. We watch the job, and the money is only released when you say the work is done. If you and the contractor disagree, we step in as the middleman and help sort it out.
The direct way. You pay us our fee for finding and matching the contractor. After that, you and the contractor deal with each other one on one. We do not hold the money, we do not watch the job, and we give no guarantees of any kind about how it goes.
3. The deal is between you and the contractor
The work contract is between the customer and the contractor — not with us. Permits, licences, insurance and responsibility for the work itself belong to the customer and the contractor. A contractor's price is an estimate until they have seen the job with their own eyes.
We do not arrange for one contractor to supervise, inspect or sign off another contractor's work. We introduce people and we hold money. If two contractors choose to work together, that is between them and their own licences, and we are no part of it.
4. What we charge, and when
Our fee is 10% of what the contractor charges. There is no monthly charge, no sign-up cost and no minimum. The whole fee table is on this page and we do not add anything to it later.
Nothing is owed unless a job is actually awarded. Asking for a price costs nothing. Getting quotes costs nothing. Walking away costs nothing, and we will not bill you for it.
| What it is for | What we charge |
|---|---|
| Our cut of any job Work booked through us | 10% Of what the contractor charges. |
| Introducing you to a hire company Equipment hire we introduce | $10.00 A flat charge, whatever the hire costs. |
Phone numbers and email addresses are exchanged once the job is awarded and our fee is in. On a protected job the fee comes out of the money you have already put in, so there is nothing extra to pay. Until then you can message each other through the site.
5. Introductions we made
When we introduce a contractor to a customer, work between those two runs through SiteCrew for 12 months after their last job together, and carries the fee.
This is not a non-compete. A contractor covered by it stays completely free to work for anybody we did not introduce them to, to advertise, to take their own customers, to work for our competitors, and to leave SiteCrew whenever they want. The only thing it stops is taking a customer we found and cutting us out of the next job.
If a contractor was already working for that customer before we introduced them, this does not apply at all. Tell us and we will mark it. We do not claim customers that were never ours.
If we think somebody has gone around us, a person looks at it and talks to both sides. Nobody is charged automatically for a job we were not part of.
6. If the two of you cannot agree
While we are holding the money, either side can tell us something is wrong. Nothing is paid out while we look at it. Most of these are settled in a few days once somebody is actually listening.
If we cannot settle it, we do not pick a winner. We keep holding the money and wait for a court. When there is a ruling, we pay the money out the way the ruling says — to whichever side it says, in whatever amounts it names. We do not take a view on a case a court is already hearing.
If a court decides against one side, that side cannot use SiteCrew again. This applies to customers and contractors equally. If the court divides the responsibility between you, nobody is barred — a person reads the ruling and splits the money the way it says.
Going to court is between you and the other side. We are not a party to it, we do not pay for it, and we cannot bring a case on your behalf. What we do is hold the money so that whoever wins can actually be paid.
7. Ratings are honest
Contractors are rated on their work. Customers are rated too — on paying on time and being straight to deal with. Ratings are worked out from real records. Nobody can buy a better number, including us.
8. The most we can ever owe you
If something goes wrong and it is genuinely our fault, the most we will ever pay you is the money you actually paid us in fees. Not one dollar more. We are never responsible for the cost of the work, damage at the property, lost time, or any other loss.
If you do not agree with this, do not use this site. Using the site means you agree.
9. Playing fair
Going around us to avoid the fee after we made the match, faking photos or ratings, or lying about paperwork gets an account removed. We keep records of what happens on every job, and both sides can see the history of their own jobs.
